PURPOSE: A camera device having a collapsible optical system for reducing starting time, a method for starting a camera device, and a program therefor are provided to cope with an unexpected shutter chance. CONSTITUTION: An electronic still camera has a lens block(1) including a collapsible lens group(11) formed of a zoom lens and a focus lens arranged movable in direction of an optical axis. A driving unit drives the lens group. A control element(5) starts control based on a control program including an operating system after starting controlling the driving unit to move the lens group to a predetermined position by initialization of the lens group based on a starting program not including the operating system when the lens group is started in a state that an operation mode for photographing is set up.
