PURPOSE: A method for controlling a clock speed of a CPU is provided to reduce power consumption by varying the clock speed of the CPU depending on an operation mode of an OS(Operating System) operating a system. CONSTITUTION: It is judged that the operation mode of the current OS is the time to enter an idle mode(SP2). If the operation mode is the time to enter the idle mode, the operation mode is switched to the idle mode by changing the clock speed to the lowest speed while the current clock speed of the CPU is stored(SP3,SP4,SP5). In a state of the idle mode, it is judged that the idle mode of the operation system is the time to terminate the idle mode(SP6). In case of the time to terminate the idle mode, the operation mode is escaped from the idle mode by changing the clock speed of the CPU to the previously stored clock speed(SP7).
