Gripping device for transferring objects, especially upright bottles (15), comprises a first and a second gripper plate (11, 12), each having several openings (13, 14). At least one snap-in element (21) is arranged at the openings (13) of one gripper plate (base plate) (11). In the normal state each snap-in element overlaps the corresponding opening in the base plate to limit the effective surface of the opening. Each snap-in element can be displaced in the plate plane relative to a tension direction. Displacement of the snap-in element from the normal state reduces the overlap of the snap-in element with the opening in the base pate and thus increases the effective surface of the opening. The snap-in element is pressed by spring force into the normal state.
