The system has an air conditioning device (10) with a compression coolant circuit (12) driven by a drive engine with an evaporator (14) and short-duration coolant tank(s) (16) that communicates with the evaporator and is discharged if the engine is briefly shut off. The short-duration coolant tank has a flat pipe heat exchanger(s) with a cold storage medium attached, is charged by passing coolant through the heat exchanger and is outside the air conditioning device. The system has an air conditioning device with a compression coolant circuit driven by a drive engine and containing an evaporator and at least one short-duration coolant tank that communicates with the evaporator and is especially provided to be discharged if the engine is briefly shut off during a brief vehicle stop. The short-duration coolant tank has at least one flat pipe heat exchanger with a cold storage medium attached, is charged by passing coolant of the compression coolant circuit through the heat exchanger and is arranged outside the air conditioning device. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a method of operating an inventive system.
