The invention provides an aqueous acidic antimicrobial cleaning composition suitable for the hygienic cleaning of surfaces, which composition comprises an acid, an amine oxide surfactant, and an N-alkylpyrrolidone derivative. Compositions of the invention are designed in particular for the hygienic cleaning of hard surfaces, and are preferably supplied in the form of wipes, in which a disposable substrate (such as a porous or absorbant sheet or cloth) has been pre-treated with the composition into or onto the substrate prior to its use by the consumer.
