<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airbag device A capable of determining with excellent accuracy whether or not an occupant head part is located in an airbag development prohibition area facing an occupant direction by a predetermined distance from a development surface, and preventing development of the airbag while the head part is located in the airbag development prohibition area. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle airbag device A comprises a collision sensor to detect vehicle collision, an airbag 1 which is stored in an instrument panel 11 and ejected from a development surface 12 by the operation of a gas emission means and developed, a camera 2 to pick up images of an occupant at a seat, and an airbag controller which detects the position of an occupant head part based on the picked-up image of the camera 2, prohibits the operation of a gas generation means while the head part is detected in an airbag development prohibition area 13 when the collision sensor detects the vehicle collision, and operates the gas generation means when the head part is detected in an airbag development permission area 14.
