<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate capable of being made thin in thickness, light in weight and improved in durability simultaneously, and to provide an optical member capable of forming a liquid crystal display device of mobile use which is excellent in reliability. <P>SOLUTION: The polarizing plate has a protective film essentially consisting of epoxy resin on at least one side of a polarizer. The polarizing plate can be manufactured by the method by which an uncured epoxy resin composition is applied onto at least one side of the polarizer, then the composition is cured to form the protective film. The optical member consisting of a laminated body of the polarizing plate and an optical layer (e.g. a retardation plate) having another optical function is provided.
