摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a driver's feeling of wrongness such as sudden closing in on a preceding vehicle. SOLUTION: A target vehicle speed V<SP>*</SP>is set to include an additional value of a value obtained by multiplying relative speed a difference between a inter-vehicle distance L from the preceding vehicle and a target inter-vehicle distance L<SP>*</SP>by a control gain fd, and a value obtained by multiplying relative speedΔV with the preceding vehicle by a control gain fv. A regulator is provided, which controls braking force so as to make own vehicle speed V agree with the target vehicle speed V<SP>*</SP>and converges the inter-vehicle distance L to the target inter-vehicle distance L<SP>*</SP>. When a driver performs a preparation action such as raising his/her foot above a brake pedal, the control gains fd, fv are set to moderate vehicle speed change at the time of approaching the preceding vehicle.
