PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the capacity of a PWM converter having an active filter (AF) function in which a diode rectifier and the PWM converter are connected in parallel, and to eliminate a transformer between an AC power supply and an AF, which was conventionally required. SOLUTION: In the AC-DC converter in which the PWM converter 4 having the AF function is connected with the diode rectifier 21, a DC inductance Ld is connected between the power supply 1 and the rectifier 21, a switching element 22 for forming the Ld and a step-up chopper is connected to an output side of the rectifier 21, and a smoothing capacitor C and reflux blocking diodes D1, D2 are connected in the DC side. A rectangular wave current is fed through the Ld by controlling the switching element 22. The capacity of the AF4 is reduced by reducing higher harmonic by the rectifier 21. The DC voltage Vdc is improved by controlling the magnitude of the rectangular wave current. A compensation current is allowed to flow from the AF3 without need for providing the transformer between the power supply 1 and the AF3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
