PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a material of an electrode of a spark plug to extend a plug service life. SOLUTION: An electrode used for an electrode tip 16 or 17, a center electrode 3 or a grounding electrode 14 of the spark plug for an internal combustion engine is formed by sufficiently agitating and mixing the powder of Ni and the powder of a metal itself or a compound of the metal (oxide, carbide, nitride or the like) to be mixed, and thereafter compacting them. The compacted substance is baked and solidified after debindering. Thereafter, a target electrode is manufactured by applying necessary work such as cold wire-drawing work. Thereby, the electrode wherein Ni occupies 99.60-99.999 wt.(mass)% in the total amount of Ni and constituents forming a solid solution in constituents of the electrode material can be provided. When an oxide (carbide, nitride or the like) of Zr or Ti is mixed in the electrode material, the oxide (carbide, nitride or the like) in a powder form is mixed with the powder of Ni and thereafter they are baked and solidified. Thereby, the oxides thereof are uniformly diffused in the electrode material while depositing them from a parent phase of Ni. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
