PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the capacity of a recording apparatus by applying supplementary recording to the recording region of a recording element wherein abnormality occurs. SOLUTION: This recording apparatus is constituted so as to determine the range of the recording element used in the usual recording of either one of a recording head having the recording element wherein abnormality occurs, a recording head having the recording element wherein abnormality occures so as to reduce the shift quantity of a recording position with a recording head used in supplementary recording and the recording head used in supplementary recording.
