PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device capable of responding to requests along with reduced production cost, even if white references data to be held increases according to the requests for increase in a reading mode or improvement in accuracy for white reference data etc. SOLUTION: A software shading mode is selected if resolution required for reading data is high, while a hardware shading mode is selected if resolution required for reading data is low. When the hardware shading mode is selected, hardware shading correction processing is selected and executed (step S42).
