PLAY BACK METHOD OF MULTI-SESSION COMPATIBLE DISK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To play back a disk-shaped recording medium surely by automatically discriminating whether the kind of the medium is a single session or a multi-session. SOLUTION: When reading the reproduced signal from the disk-shaped recording medium, only attribute information of a TOC (Table of Content) in first session is read out irrespective of whether the medium is compatible to a multi-session or incompatible to the multi-session to judge whether the medium is compatible to the multi-session or incompatible to the multi-session based on the attribute information of the TOC in the first session and to play back the medium in a single session mode when the medium is judged to be incompatible to the multi-session and to successively play back the medium in a session unit when the medium is judged to be compatible to the multi-session.
