<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recognition method and a recognition device for a bar code, capable of accurately recognizing the bar code regardless of a background state. <P>SOLUTION: A maximum value of a pixel value of a portion corresponding to a black bar and a minimum value of a pixel value of a portion corresponding to a white bar are detected, and an intermediate value therebetween is set to a threshold value for binarization.
