PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method which has neither damage to seed germination nor problems of working environment and by which uniform treatment is carried out and to efficiently obtain seeds having improved germination in a treatment method by which problems (non-germinated seeds, seeds germinated in retard, unevenly germinated seeds and abnormally germinated seeds) of germination caused by physical, chemical or physiological factors existing in seed coats and rinds of plant seeds are solved and germination of seeds is improved. SOLUTION: Granular or powdery abrasive particles having hardness higher than or equal to those of the seed coats or the rinds of seeds as treatment object are projected into the seeds and made to collide with a group of seeds (e.g. 1 liter of seeds) and the surface layer parts of the seed coats or the rinds are scraped by the shock. Consequently, uniform grinding not affected by the uneven shape on the surfaces of the seeds is carried out while reducing physical, chemical and physiological factors existing in the seed coats and the rinds and adversely effecting seed germination. The abrasive particles are readily separated from the group of the seeds by making the diameters of the abrasive particles smaller than those of the seeds. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
