PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent battery exhaustion in an engine control system starting an engine under a start conditions different from ignition switch (hereinafter IGSW) even upon engine stop and performing a specific control process. SOLUTION: An engine control system automatically supplying operation electric power and starting the engine when a starting condition that a predetermined time passed after IGSW is turned off and operation is stopped is satisfied, and performing evaporator emission diagnosis for detecting leak of an evaporator emission purge system intentionally prohibits operation of an electric load unnecessary for evaporator emission diagnosis (S130) if it is determined that the starting condition is satisfied in starting up at the time (S120:YES). Consequently, unnecessary electric power consumption is surely prevented and exhaustion of the battery can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
