摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a light modulation element having no polarization dependence in a device of spatially modulating a light beam comprising a polymer dispersion liquid crystal (PDLC) element. <P>SOLUTION: The element contains at least two regions which can be separately addressed by using a system having at least two electrodes. The electrodes have a specified nonlinear pattern selected to decrease the sensitivity of the above device to polarized light caused by an electric field in at least one lateral direction generated between the above at least two electrodes.
