<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a translucent reflection liquid crystal display device which achieves bright and high contrast display with a wide viewing angle. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal layer 50 held between a pair of substrates 10, 25, and also includes dot regions D1, D2, D3 each having a transmissive display area T and a reflective display area R. The liquid crystal layer 50 comprises a negative dielectric anisotropy liquid crystal with homeotropic alignment in the initial alignment state. The reflective display area R includes an insulation film 24 as a means to impart irregularities to a reflective film 20, while the insulation film 24 is also disposed in the transmissive display area T and functions as a means to impart irregularities to the surface between which the liquid crystal layer 50 is held. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
