PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a low start current and high start torque characteristics and a high efficiency and high power factor characteristics in normal low state, by directly supplying an AC power source 31 as original commercial frequency to a squirrel-cage induction motor. SOLUTION: The cross-sectional shape of the upper side section 251 of a rotor conductor which exits near the outer periphery of a rotor 20 is a trapezoid, and that of the lower side section 252 of the rotor conductor which exits near the center is a rectangle. The height h1 of the upper side section 251 is 27mm or higher in the case with a brass conductor, while h1 is 7mm or higher in the case with a copper conductor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
