PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relatively simple, compact and lightweight battery-assisted bicycle of high portability capable of obtaining a sufficient travel stretch with predetermined charge of a battery. SOLUTION: The battery-assisted bicycle 10 comprises a rear fork assembly 22 having a pair structural members extending from a frame 12, a wheel 16 provided between the structural members of the rear fork assembly 22, an electric motor 44 fitted close to the wheel 16, and a driving mechanism provided between the wheel 16 and the electric motor 44. The driving mechanism of the battery-assisted bicycle 10 has a first gear connected to a shaft of the electric motor 44 and having a plurality of first teeth and a second gear connected to the wheel 16 and having a plurality of second teeth. The teeth of the first gear are engaged with the teeth of the second gear. When the shaft of the electric motor 44 is rotated, the second gear gives the rotational force to the wheel 16.
