PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive capable of surely detecting an optical disk even when the optical disk having the high transmittance of light is inserted. SOLUTION: This optical disk drive 30 is constituted so that data of the optical disk 20 are readable and/or the data are writable into the optical disk. A detection sensor 46 consisting of a light emitting element 50 and a light receiving element 52 respectively arranged so as to insert the optical disk 20 of the specified position x between them is provided for detecting the coming up of the optical disk 20 to the specified position when the optical disk 20 is inserted. Also, the light emitting element 50 of the detection sensor 46 is arranged so as to irradiate the optical disk 20 of the specified position x to the direction inclined with respect to a surface of the optical disk 20. Further, the light receiving element 52 of the detection sensor 46 is arranged so as to receive the light emitted from the light emitting element 50 in the case the optical disk 20 is not existent at the specified position x.
