PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica removing apparatus which perfectly uses the silica removing capacity of a porous silica removing agent, saves the amount of the porous silica removing agent to be used and reduces the production amount of industrial waste, and a method for treating silica-containing water. SOLUTION: In the silica removing apparatus for silica-containing water and a silica removing means for silica-containing water, columns filled with the porous silica removing agent are installed in series in a multistage fashion. The silica removing apparatus for silica-containing water has means for preventing the outflow of the porous silica removing agent so that those means are provided to the upper and lower parts of the columns filled with the porous silica removing agent so as to be changed over to ascending and descending flow systems. In the method for treating silica-containing water, silica-containing water is passed through the first column filled with the porous silica removing agent and the outflow water from the first column is further passed through the separately provided second column filled with the porous silica removing agent.
