The electrooptical component has a millimeter and sub-millimeter wave antenna and an optical receiver in the form of an electro-absorption modulator. The Electrooptical component has an optically active element. The optically active element and the electro-absorption modulator are integrated into the same semiconductor substrate (1). The optically active element is a laser or an optical amplifier. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a method of generating millimeter and sub-millimeter waves.
