PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a real image type variable magnification finder optical system having simple structure and made inexpensive and easy-to-view by reducing the change of diopter caused in the case of observing a finite distance object at the time of high magnification. SOLUTION: In the real image type variable magnification finder optical system having an objective optical system G and ocular optical systems P and L5 in order from an object side, the position of the image formation surface of the objective optical system G is moved toward the object side along an optical axis AX from the position IL of the image formation surface at the time of low magnification to the position IH of the image formation surface at the time of high magnification in the case of variable magnification from the low magnification to the high magnification.
