<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device which has a mechanism capable of easily distinguishing an error or the like in data reading by solving the problem that a trouble cannot be promptly discovered and handled because a printing medium such as a check is discharged similarly to the normal case even when the error or the like happens in the data reading, and which can print feeding back read data, and to provide a printing method. <P>SOLUTION: The printing device has a plurality of discharge means capable of discharging the printing medium in different directions. The different discharge means can be selected according to the printing medium with the trouble of the error or the like in data reading of the printing medium, and the printing medium without the trouble. Since the trouble can be distinguished easily, countermeasures can be taken promptly.
