<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for obtaining a good image by attaining shortening of an image forming time in single color image formation and prevention of occurrence of developer spill or developer fog, in the image forming apparatus having a developing means mounting a plurality of developing devices on a rotating body and enabling full color image formation, and also to provide a cartridge provided therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In first image formation, the rotating body 22x is rotated to successively move the plurality of the developing devices 22a-22d up to an image carrier 1 and a development position, and a developer carrier 8 of the developing device 22a at the development position P1 is contacted on and separated from the image carrier 1. In second image formation, rotation of the rotating body 22x is stopped to provide one developing device 22d at the position P1, the developer carrier 8 is contacted on and separated from the image carrier 1 in non-image formation, and a second separated distance of the developer carrier 8 opposed to the image carrier 1 in the second image formation is shorter than a first separated distance in the first image formation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
