PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave device which has a large amount of attenuation, even in a close vicinity of the lower side of a pass band and the communication device having the device. SOLUTION: In the surface acoustic wave filter 200 which comprises at least two IDTs 203 to 205, formed along a propagation direction of a surface acoustic wave on a piezoelectric substrate and a reflector 206, 207 sandwiching the IDTs 203 to 205, cross-width weighting is applied to parts of electrode fingers of the reflectors 206, 207 and a method of the cross width weighting of the reflectors 206, 207 differs from each other.
