PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backing material for an ultrasonic piezoelectric vibrator composed of a synthetic rubber system or the like that improves dimensional accuracy of molding or cut workability in the backing material which has a large specific gravity and has excellent durability characteristics such as chemical/oil resistance, oxygen/ozone resistance, alcohol resistance, water resistance, and aqueous solution resistance. SOLUTION: The backing material for the piezoelectric vibrator for an acoustic wave measuring instrument is composed of a rubber compound material which has hardness from A70 in a type-A durometer to D70 in a type-D durometer in JIS K6253 compliant spring hardness tester (durometer hardness), and in which the specific gravity is from 1.21 to 7.0. The present invention includes a piezoelectric body obtained by fixing the backing material for the piezoelectric vibrator to it, a probe head using the same, and the ultrasonic wave measuring instrument using the same.
