PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, lightweight, and low-power consumption speed change operating device capable of doing a speed change operation in a short period of time. SOLUTION: In the speed change operating device of a synchromesh type transmission in which gear selection and engaging and releasing movement is carried out by actuating a shift select shaft in a first direction and a second direction different from the first direction, the gear selection and engaging and releasing movement is carried by actuating the shift select shaft in the second direction while actuating it in the first direction, by actuating the shift select shaft in the first direction and simultaneously actuating a second actuator. Concretely, a number of times of actuation/stoppage of a shift operating motor is reduced and the load the actuator for select operation is reduced, by providing a plurality of grooves 41 parallel to a shift fork shaft, and a guide grooves having a plurality of tilted grooves 42 gathering to a neutral point 43 from them, and by operating a follower 33 causing it to follow along the guide grooves.
