PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultra-high pressure discharge lamp capable of solving the problem of the lowering of a brightness keeping rate caused by the generation of blackening or white turbidity on a discharging container or the problem of having a crack on the discharging container generated. SOLUTION: The ultra-high pressure discharge lamp is composed of a discharging container made of quartz glass in which, a pair of electrodes are arranged so as to face each other, and mercury of 0.15 mg/mm<SP>3</SP>or more is enclosed in the discharging container.
