PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: a conventional grinder which brings a plate surface of a rotary grindstone into contact with an upper peripheral surface of a workpiece under rotational operation, and at the same time reciprocatively slides the rotary grindstone along an axial line of the workpiece, forms grinding streaks only in a peripheral direction of the workpiece, and therefore, cannot carry out good mirror grinding, resulting in poor finish in a printing surface if the workpiece is for use in printing. SOLUTION: In this grinder, a workpiece A is ground by bringing a plate surface of a rotary grindstone 9 arranged on a reciprocating stand 4 reciprocatively sliding along an axial line of the workpiece into contact with an upper portion of a peripheral surface of the workpiece under rotational operation. The reciprocating stand also has a rotary grindstone 10 attached thereto, for bringing part of the periphery of its plate surface into contact with the peripheral surface of the workpiece. Thus, both the rotary grindstones carry out mirror grinding of the workpiece with meshes of grinding line streaks formed thereby. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
