PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickness measuring method for measuring the thickness of a measured part even if it has curvature or unevenness, without severely positioning a measured object. SOLUTION: Upper and lower displacement sensors are oppositely disposed so as to put the skin of an air bag cover between them. Measuring light from the upper and lower displacement sensors is irradiated to a designed surface and its rear face while reflected light from the designed surface and its rear face is received by the upper and lower displacement sensors, thereby detecting the displaced state of the designed surface and its rear face. Data on the displaced state of the designed surface and its rear face are inputted into a computer to together couple the two groups of data. An approximated straight line AL is found from the data on the displaced state of the designed surface by a least-squares method, perpendicular lines PL are drawn from respective measuring points on the displaced state of the rear face to the straight line AL, and the lengths of the perpendicular lines PL are regarded as the thicknesses of the skin.
