PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the setup method of an image reader and an image processor for properly carrying out setup adjustment without the need for using a setup filter likely to cause a time change or the like. SOLUTION: Disclosed are the image processor and the setup method of the image reader 600 for forming the image of a transmission light passing through a film F from LED elements 611R, 611G, 611B onto CCDs 621R, 621G, 621B to read the image. When setup adjustment is carried out, an ND filter 616 is located on an optical path D between the LED elements and the CCDs so that a CCD output value obtained by receiving light coming from the LED elements does not overflow to adjust an input current for obtaining a color balance proper to the film F, and in reading an image, the ND filter 616 is removed from on the optical path between the LED elements and the CCDs.
