DISTANCE DISTRIBUTION DETECTING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce overhead of analysis processing caused for determining distance with space resolution higher than necessary when the distance is stereoscopically detected and to reduce collation error associated with this.

SOLUTION: Images photographed by two cameras 11 and 21 are digitized by A/C converters 12 and 22. The camera 11 photographs a right image, and the camera 21 photographs a left image. The photographed images are divided into three types of distance areas, and collation processing is performed on each distance area. A lower half part of the image is taken as a close-distance area (region 1). A quarter image located above the region 1 is taken as a intermediate-distance area (region 2). The upper quarter part of the remaining image is taken as a long-distance area.
