PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording apparatus capable of automatically obtaining recordings of video contents sectioned in units of programs in the case of dubbing the video contents recorded on a video tape. SOLUTION: The video recording apparatus including a function of recording an externally received analog video signal on a recording medium is provided with: a synchronizing signal separation means for separating synchronizing signals from the received video signal; a measuring means for measuring an interval of the separated synchronizing signals; and a detection means for detecting a program switching period on the basis of whether or not the measured interval of the synchronizing signals exceeds a prescribed value.
