<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a submarine telecommunication system with a simplified reconstitution procedure which prevents incidental reconstitution and hot switching. <P>SOLUTION: A branch unit incorporated in the submarine telecommunication system provided with three cables including optical and electrical transmission members contains three terminals connected to the electrical transmission members for the cable, three input points, and three electric contacts located respectively between one of each terminal and one of each input points. The first terminal and the second terminal form electrically connected main line segments made to transmit a main line current, and the third terminal forms a branch segment electrically connected to the seabed earth and made to transmit a branch current. The branch unit performs reconstitution by controlling the switching of the electric contacts. An electric voltage indicating electric potential at one point on the main line segment is measured. The reconstitution based on an optical reconstitution signal is activated only if an electric potential absolute value falls below a threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
