PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid image processing from being complicated and to make an original reading apparatus compact by providing a plurality of stages of uniform scanning speeds to an optical unit. SOLUTION: A movement control means 31 moves the optical unit 200 at a uniform speed in each uniform speed region and the optical unit 200 reads image information in an original while being moved, and a memory 35 stores the image information. A moving distance and a moving speed of the optical unit 200 are adjusted in a non-uniform speed region existing before and after each uniform speed region, so that each equi speed region is overlapped before and after the non-uniform speed region.
