PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magazine and an image recording apparatus in which whether a recording material is replaced or not is judged by detecting the opening history of a covering member manipulated when the recording material is replaced, whereby unnecessary leading end processing is avoided. SOLUTION: A covering member opening recognizing pin 36 is disposed which protrudes in a positioning hole 34b when a covering member 10a of a magazine 10 is opened and which keeps the protruding state when the covering member 10a is closed again, thereby memorizing the opening of the covering member 10a, and a detector 53 which receives an electric signal from the pin 36 and detects the opening of the covering member 10a is also disposed. When the opening of the covering member 10a and replacement of photographic printing paper 16 are detected by the detector 53, a printer processor 2 performs leading end processing by which a leading end of photographic printing paper 16 is cut at a prescribed length at the time of starting drawing of the paper 16.
