PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance emitting a white electroluminescent light which is composed of a single component. SOLUTION: The fluorescent substance emitting a white electroluminescent light which is composed of a single component shows a white electroluminescent light that has an x color coordinate of 0.23-0.41 and a y color coordinate of 0.25-0.42. The fluorescent substance is comprised of zinc sulfide which is activated by copper, manganese, chlorine, and optionally one or more of metals selected from gold and antimony.
