PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus capable of selectively causing only active oxygen to act on a specimen without producing ozone in a gas phase for the purpose of evaluating endurance and oxidative deterioration characteristics of an organic material, a matter consisting of the organic material, a matter coated with the organic material in the gas phase and the like. SOLUTION: The oxidative deterioration accelerating apparatus for accelerating oxidative deterioration of the specimen by causing active oxygen to act on the specimen in the gas phase comprises a container for accommodating the specimen, an active oxygen generating catalyst accommodated in the container and a light source for irradiating the catalyst with light.
