PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical device suitable for treatment of a mammalian disease such as diabetes mellitus.

SOLUTION: This medical device comprises a shell having an outer surface and an interior lumen and a biocompatible, porous scaffold comprising a plurality of at least one mammalian cell type except an immune cell seeded therein, and where the scaffold is disposed with the interior lumen .
