<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can effectively reduce noise. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a noise source signal observing means which observes a sonic wave and/or vibration generated in the image forming apparatus and causing noise and converts it to an electric signal, signal processing means 25 to 27, 28a to 30a, 28b to 30b which process the signal from the noise source signal observing means and determine a waveform of sonic wave and/or vibration to be outputted, muffling means 24a, 24b which convert the signal from the signal processing means into sonic wave and/or vibration and emit it into a plurality of prescribed regions, a signal processing adapting means which preliminarily decides signal processing of the signal processing means in advance so as to be muffled in a plurality of prescribed regions and muffling region switching means 39, 40, 41 which switch a plurality of prescribed regions as a muffling region where muffling is performed by the sonic wave and/or vibration from the muffling means.
