<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve impact resistance without obstructing narrowing of a picture frame even in the case a prism light guide plate and a rigid lamp reflector are used in a surface illumination device such as a backlight unit of a display device. <P>SOLUTION: The stopper metal fittings 11A, 11B made of stainless steel as a separate body are mounted to a position in the vicinity of both end parts of an incident light face 3i of a light guide plate 3 in a chassis 7 of frame-like to support the prism light guide plate 3 in the backlight unit of a liquid crystal display device. These stopper metal fittings 11A, 11B are arranged so that those pawls 11Ap, 11Bp may enter into the interior from sideward and be interposed between the incident face 3i of the light guide plate 3 and a lamp 8 (lamp holder 10). By these stopper metal fittings 11A, 11B, in the case an impact is applied on the liquid crystal display device from outside, since movement in the direction of the lamp 8 of the light guide plate 3 is prevented, the impact resistance is improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
