PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize low-cost optical pulse compression of high quality and high efficiency. SOLUTION: In the dispersion-reduced optical fiber, the specific refractive index differenceΔ(%) between its core 2 and clad 3 is set to be 0.5<Δ<1.0. The ratio (b/a) of the core diameter (2×a) and clad diameter (2×b) is set to be 20<(b/a)<30, and the clad diameter (2×b) is set to be 80μm≤2×b≤200μm. The clad diameter is gradually decreased from one fiber end side to the other fiber end side. Here, inequalities (1) to (3) are satisfied with respect to incident pulse light. Namely, (1) 1<N<1.5, (2) 2<(L/L<SB>DIN</SB>)<5, and (3) 5<(D<SB>in</SB>/D<SB>out</SB>), where N is a soliton degree, L a fiber length, L<SB>DIN</SB>a dispersion distance, D<SB>in</SB>an input dispersion value, and D<SB>out</SB>an output dispersion value.
