PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate surface protecting agent for a lithographic printing plate showing the remarkable effect of flaw and smudge prevention of the plate after its making; superb protection of the hydrophilicity of a non-image part; exhibiting successful ink coating properties to ink in printing process; capable of ensuring of stable plate making for a long time even in case a developing solution component is included in the agent; and being high in safety to a human body and exerting no adverse effect on natural environments. SOLUTION: This plate surface protecting agent for a lithographic printing plate contains at least one kind of chemical compound represented by formula (I) and is used for plate surface protecting treatment after image exposure to a photosensitive lithographic printing plate and development, when the plate is made. In formula (I), R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each independently hydrogen atom or methyl group; R<SB>3</SB>is a 1-8C alkyl group, a 1-8C alkenyl group or a 1-8C alkynyl group; "m" is an integer of 1 to 3; "a" is an integer of 0 or 1 to 50; and "b" is an integer of 0 or 1 to 50, provided that "a" and "b" are not 0 simultaneously.
