PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a kaleidoscope enabling a user to easily enjoy the change of a pattern not only under bright service environment but also under dark service environment. SOLUTION: An isosceles triangle tubular mirror barrel 3 is incorporated in an outer barrel 2, and a peephole 3a is formed at one open end of the barrel 3. A transparent observing piece holding body 5 being a cylinder whose both ends are closed is attached vertically to the other open end of the barrel 3, and the holding body 5 is filled with a liquid 9 having specified viscosity such as mineral oil. Many various observing pieces 10 such as spangles are mixed in the liquid 9, and an illuminator 12 is integrally attached to the outer barrel 2 so as to project light to the side surface of the holding body 5. Thus, dazzle caused by the incidence of the light from the front of the holding body 5 is avoided while compensating the insufficiency of light quantity because the observing pieces 10 are illuminated by the illuminator 12, and a user only has to hold the outer barrel 2 with one hand while viewing the observing pieces 10. By setting the illuminator 12 so that it may be housed along the outer barrel 2, the illuminator 12 does not become a hindrance and the handleability of the kaleidoscope 1 is improved.
