PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope system capable of obtaining bright and clear images even when an auxiliary light source is lit. SOLUTION: The electronic endoscope system is provided with: an electronic camera 16 fixed on the tip part of an insertion part 11; an image system processing means for converting the image output of the electronic camera 16 to image signals; a main light source 27; and the auxiliary light source 32 which is to be lit instead of the main light source 27 and whose light quantity is smaller than that of the main light source 27. When the main light source 27 is lit, the electronic camera 16 performs a normal electronic shutter operation of repetition of imaging and image signal output in a prescribed cycle, and the image system processing means amplifies image signals outputted by the imaging means with a first gain and processes them. When the auxiliary light source 32 is lit instead of the main light source 27, the electronic camera 16 performs a long time shutter operation of the repetition of the imaging and the image signal output in a cycle longer than the above prescribed cycle, and the video system processing means amplifies the image signals outputted by the imaging means by a second gain higher than the first gain and processes them.
