Theft protection device for data processing units or units with a data processing function. The inventive device comprises a sensor, e.g. an acceleration sensor for detecting movement or position change in the protected device. Once movement has been detected a user is required to identify himself before the unit can be accessed or at least sensitive or secret data can be accessed. An independent claim is made for a theft protection method for protecting sensitive or secret data contained within a data processing unit.
