PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a light quantity adjusting member in which a light quantity adjusting member having sufficiently satisfactory optical characteristics can be manufactured economically at low manufacturing cost through high-yield easy operation, specially, a light quantity adjusting member having a continuous or stepped density distribution can easily be obtained, to easily manufacture the light quantity adjusting member which has sufficiently satisfactory optical characteristics at low cost, and to provide various light quantity adjusting devices equippe with light quantity adjustiting members and a photographing device at low prices while obtaining sufficient optical characteristics. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the light quantity adjusting member includes: a process of preparing a transparent base material having a layer formed of a material capable of absorbing coloring liquid; and a process of imparting the coloring liquid containing a coloring material to the layer by a liquid jet recording method to form a light quantity adjustment area having specified optical density.
