PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus for stably obtaining a color image in which an image of only a specified color is processed by increasing resolution without a significant reduction in productivity. SOLUTION: In a color printer 2 of the apparatus, high-resolution image data of a specified color (a black color) among high-resolution image data of each color constituting high-resolution color image data input from a color scanner 1 is divided into a plurality of low-resolution image data, toner images (K1, K2) of the low-resolution image data are formed (for time periods Td, Te) sequentially onto a photoreceptor 21 at each low-resolution image data, and the formed toner images (K1, K2) are overlapped and transferred (for time periods Te, Tf) onto an intermediate transfer belt 22 according to the order of the formation so as to make only the image of the specified color be the image to be high-resolution processed.
